Just like adults, kids need their surroundings updated every few years to reflect their growth and personal style. Age 8-10 is always a good time to update to a tween room. This first update can be a bit more involved as you change furniture, carpet and paint to reflect your child’s growth. Tween to Teen is more of a subtle change to acknowledge that your son or daughter is becoming a young adult. With a little love and elbow grease you can do it without incurring a huge expense.
Moving the bed costs nothing and really makes your teen feel like they are in a new space. In this room we swapped sides for the bed and the desk. The teen went from a small laptop computer to a desktop computer that required more space. Checkout the sleek corner desk, dresser and nightstand from Walmart.com, all for under $200.00, only catch is they need to be assembled. I'll take a little labor over money spent any time!
The corner desk changed the entire feel of the room and the dresser was a much needed updated from one that was left over from baby furniture! Other small changes were updating the lamp, wall decor (decorated by teen himself!) and laundry bin.
