Look for Less Demilune Cabinet

A demilune cabinet is a great look for many rooms in your home. Use it to dress up your entry hall or as a decorative way to add useful storage to your dining room or living room. The beautiful credenza on the right features a classic demilune shape with an inlaid veneer oval pattern and veneer swirled finish. It is available at a leading retailer for $2,749. The striking demilune cabinet on the left has a similar look and size. It also features a demilune shape and an inlaid oval pattern and swirled veneer finish. The decorative piece on the left is available at CheapChicDecor.com for only $1,849.  Why pay more for the look you are after when you don’t have to? "Color Splash" Mediterranean Makeover

I recently saw an episode of HGTV's Color Splash with David Bromstad, which featured a Mediterranean home makeover. He showed how easy it is to blend Tuscan decor with other styles, in this case glam, eclectic and rustic. Bromstad redecorated 6 spaces in a Mediterranean styled home. The historic Bonnet House in Ft. Lauderdale was used as an inspiration for the project. The show gave a lot of information on how to pick just the right paint color for your space. David Bromstad mentioned that you don’t have to use bright Tuscan colors on your walls to create a Tuscan feel in the space. His use of more muted colors, enhanced the Mediterranean features in the home. I especially loved the dark, rich woodwork in the home and the way he incorporated an antique carved door into an elaborate fireplace decoration. Overall, it was an interesting take on Tuscan decorating. How to Choose Wall Decor

What to place on your walls is often an afterthought when most people are decorating a room. What you hang on your wall makes a statement about you and your design style. Wall decor should enhance and complete the look of your space.

There are so many options available today. They range from wall sconces to shelves to wall art to paintings, prints and framed photos. The styles of wall decor also vary from Tuscan to modern, early American to retro and more! There is a wall decoration out there to suit every decor.

It is easy to change the look of your room by what you decide to hang on your wall. Changing your wall decorations can update your room or add a different feel to the space. For example, adding a rustic wood and wrought iron console table will bring a Tuscan feel to your entry hall. Changing the frames on your photos to matching ones will bring a cohesive, finished look to your wall.  The addition of large mirror to your living room can enlarge the feel of the room while adding more light to the space.

I love to mix different types of materials on my walls. It keeps the look of the room more interesting. As long as you keep the items in the same style or color scheme different types of pieces can go together. For example, I like to mix a painting in a black wood frame with black wrought iron candle sconces and a clock with a black metal frame. The black makes it all work together.

Have fun with your wall art. Try a convex mirror in your dining room or a decorative metal candle sconce in your living room. How about adding an abstract wood and metal wall hanging to your den or a replica station clock to a wall in your study.

Overall, choose wall art that you enjoy to look at and that reflects the look you want in your space. Your home is your blank canvas. Have fun with it.

What to do With a Fireplace in the Summer?

What do you do with your fireplace in the summer? In the warmer months most people do not want to light a fire. There are many interesting things you can do to keep that seasonal spot in your room an interesting focal point.

One popular idea is to place a candle arrangement in the fireplace itself. This can be done with votives, in candleholders of varying heights or a large centerpiece candelabrum. The candles will provide a “fire” glow in the fireplace. It is a nice option to a hot crackling fire in the warmer months. You can still have your fire when you don’t want the heat.

Another idea is to place a flower arrangement or plant in, or in front of the fireplace. This is a nice way to bring beauty to a spot that is not being used. The foliage can be real or artificial. Place in a large ceramic planter or vase to add more interest. Bring out the accent colors in the room with the flowers or container you choose.

It is nice to be able to find another use for underutilized spots in your room. Don’t let the season stop you from using your fireplace. Candles and plants can keep your fireplace as an accent in your room even in the warmer months.
